Teddy

Preparations for my play Teddy are in full swing. It is having its premiere at the prestigious Eugene O Neill Festival in New Ross on Friday 11th of October at 8pm and as I write this the theatre has almost sold out!

I decided to set this play in the nostalgic 1980s in Ireland. A decade that brought such real change to Ireland. As a teenager back then, our lives were filled with the music of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Rod Stewart. Vincent Hanley boomed into our sitting rooms on a Sunday with three hours of music. We were suddenly Americanised. Charlie Haughey is in his golden age and Gay Byrne ruled the airwaves.

The play is set at Christmas where tinsel is abundant, and Midnight Mass is a time to wear your absolute best.

The play explores the complex secrets that are often only told at Christmas. I am very much looking forward to seeing Teddy on the stage and I am incredibly grateful to all at the festival and especially to Eric Fraiser Hayes for being such an insightful director. With a brilliant cast of Wexford and American actors Teddy is here…
